Yes, there are medicines to cure
the corona patient. However, prevention is better than cure. Nothing works
better than rasam or pepper water, eaten with rice. No, I am not
joking. Rasam, in fact, is more than mere pepper water. It is a
concoction (mixture) of ginger, coriander leaves and cumin (seeragam).
Pepper, however, is the main ingredient, and it is no ordinary one.
According to an ancient Tamil proverb, “even if
you go to the enemy’s house, taken ten corns of pepper with you.”
The reasoning is this. Assuming that your enemy
has mixed something that he gives you to eat or drink, and, if you have reason
to suspect that it could be either toxic or a magic potion to bring you under
his control, if you swallow three corns of the pepper that you have brought
with you, it would neutralize the ill-effects of whatever substance you have
eaten or drunk.
Usually, when you have a fever, the doctor
advises you to eat only rasam sadam. The reason: rasam will
drive out any virus that you might have ingested. Not only that. Rasam is
a proven antidote for problems relating to phlegm, colds, and cold-related
diseases.
Normally, we prepare rasam with
tamarind-water. Tamarind induces heat. So if you want to know what is the best
antidote for a virus, the answer is of course rasam. It is the perfect
medicinal food.
Even if you don’t want to eat rasam sadam,
at least drink half-a-glass of rasam. I am hopeful that those doing
research in the medicinal field will accept this as a remedy. Ginger is
one of the ingredients to fight corona. It is a pity that we have ignored these
foods in favour of imported foods, like pizza and burgers. Of course, I am not
finding fault with it, but, in the present circumstances, when we are fighting
against the virus, pepper and ginger should be at the forefront of this battle.
Those of us who were enamoured of the United
States of America and clamoured to go there should take note of the pitiable
position that the USA finds itself in. So, if we follow these wonderful tips
that our forefathers have passed on to us, we can safely reach the shore. So
let us take rasam and get rid of the virus.
